It will be the 48th session of the lower house of the parliament, which is likely to witness heavy legislative business with discussion on over a dozen of bills, including the long awaited National Accountability Commission Bill, 2012, and the controversial Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Bill.
Sources said that the session will witness around 16 bills which the coalition government will try to get passed from the house, while no decision has so far been taken to table the Dual Nationality (Amendment) Bill.
The sources said that the PPP-led coalition government may face some difficulties in passage of some controversial bills like dual nationality and Defence Housing Authority Bill from the house due to its numerical strength in the National Assembly.
Regarding dual nationality, sources said that the government was yet to take its coalition partner, ANP and the major opposition party-Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) into confidence, as both have announced to oppose the proposed law.
As for as the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Bill is concerned, PML-N has showed strong opposition to it, as leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had termed the bill as an effort of the government to please a property tycoon, Malik Riaz Hussain.
Similarly, the government has not yet taken its coalition partners and the opposition parties into confidence over the long-awaited National Accountability Bill, 2012 and there is no indication that the bill would be tabled in the House. The PPP is facing severe criticism from the opposition parties particularly the PML-N over the delay in passage of the accountability bill, which is designed to repeal the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 and to enact a new law of accountability.
Furthermore, important bills including National Counter Terrorism Authority Bill 2012, Fair Trail Bill 2012 and Election Reform bills 2012 may also be tabled in the lower house of the parliament.
